Oswestry’s position, close to the Welsh border, has meant that it has often been the scene of conflict. With a castle built following the Norman Conquest of England, feudal barons were charged with the responsibility of watching the Welsh border. They were not always successful, and the town changed hands several times, including almost being destroyed during a rebellion led by Owain Glyndŵr.
Even after the border became more settled, Oswestry could not escape conflict. It witnessed a siege during the English Civil War, and after Parliamentarian forces took the town, they tore down the walls.
Oswestry has major links with local agriculture with the local milk produced being processed on the doorstep to produce cheese and yoghurt. Local farmers also rely heavily on compressed air and vacuum to provide the resources for their milking operations both in the parlours and the associated equipment. Compressed air is used for the cattle gate operation to allow the cows to automatically enter the milking parlour.
Today, the most common types of compressors is use for industry are rotary screw compressors although rotary vane compressors and reciprocating compressors play their part for certain applications. Reciprocating compressors tend to be best when use is intermittent, for example, powering tools for a brief period or in a small garage environment. Rotary screw and vane compressors are best when continuous, high quality compressed air is needed.
